Did you think a toothbrush was just for maintaining your oral health? Guess again! An old toothbrush has a surprising number of uses. There are a host of ways a used toothbrush can be repurposed as a crafty cleaning tool. If you were about to throw out your old tooth brush, stop right there. The Pure Smiles team in Fulham Road and New Kings Road have put together five weird and wonderful ways to give your toothbrush a new lease of life.
Clean kitchen appliances
When your humble toothbrush has retired from duty, get it out of the bathroom and into the kitchen. An old toothbrush is great for scrubbing off stains and cleaning spots around taps. You can also use it to clean toasters, microwaves, fridge doors – virtually any kitchen appliance!
An old toothbrush is perfect for removing dirt and mud from your shoes. The bristles will get your shoes looking as good as new. Everyone loves shiny shoes! If you’ve got a job interview or a big event coming-up and your shoes need a spruce up, an old toothbrush is the best possible tool for the job. It will keep your shoes in top condition and make them (as Bob Marley once sang) ‘shine like a star’.
Brighten your jewellery
Why not clean your favourite jewellery at home and save a trip to the jeweller? Your toothbrush can give your rings and necklaces a shine. A slightly damp toothbrush with soft bristles can clean those tricky areas. Whether you have diamond ring or a silver pendant, a toothbrush is a fantastic way to give your jewellery a freshen up.
Clean the car
We know what you’re thinking. Why would you clean your car with the thing you use to brush your teeth? It sounds impractical but here us out. We’re not talking about a full body clean because you would be scrubbing away for weeks and probably raise a few eyebrows from people walking past. You can use a tooth brush to scrub areas in the interior, such as the wheel, dashboard, glove compartment and cup holders. It can be a quick way to remove any muck before you set off on your journey.
Clean bike chains
And it’s not just cars you can clean with an old toothbrush. If your bike chains look like they could do with a sparkle, let your toothbrush work its magic. Keep your bike chains in pristine condition by getting right in there and cleaning all the dirt off metal. Bike chains get rusty quickly so if you want your mountain bike or BMX to be on form, grab an old toothbrush and get cleaning those chains.
Toothbrushes are among the greatest weapons in our arsenal. They fight off plague and combat things like tooth decay and erosion. It’s also one of the best ways to kick bad breath. You should change your toothbrush every three months but remember to hang onto your old brushes. They really do come in handy.
