We offer a range of treatments depending on the severity of your tooth decay.
Are your teeth sensitive or tender when eating or drink?
Are there any dark coloured spots, or small holes, appearing on your teeth?
Do you have an unpleasant taste in your mouth?
If you answered yes to any of the above, you might be suffering from tooth decay.
Tooth decay is the rotting of your tooth enamel, the hard, outer layer of your teeth.
It’s a common dental problem and can occur when there’s a build-up of plaque on your teeth.
If plaque build-up is left untreated, it can lead to more serious problems such as gum disease and dental abscesses. Plaque contains bacteria that attacks and damages the outer layer of the tooth. Tooth decay is a process that occurs over time and the infection can even extend outside of the tooth root to the bone.
The most common cause of tooth decay is eating and drinking too much sugary and starchy products, as the bacteria thrives in these types of food and drink. Also, dry mouth can lead to decay so it’s important you drink lots of water. Your saliva helps wash away food particles and plaque from your teeth.
Tooth decay is however avoidable, if you maintain a healthy dental routine and take precautions. The simplest way to avoid tooth decay is by cutting down on your sugar intake. Always keep your teeth and gums healthy by brushing twice a day, and regular check-ups will ensure you keep healthy.
If you are concerned about tooth decay, Pure Smiles offers comprehensive treatments. For early stages of tooth decay, we may use a fluoride gel, varnish or paste to the affected area. Synthetic fluoride is used in toothpaste and it protects the enamel. We offer a range of treatments depending on the severity of your tooth decay.
