Most cases of Bruxism occur subconsciously during sleep and it’s thought to be related to stress and anxiety. Research shows there could be various reasons why people grind their teeth.
Teeth grinding usually isn’t serious and often gets better after a few months. However, special treatments may be required if it’s severe. Most mild cases require no specific treatment, but your dentist may recommend mouth guards and mouth splints. Your dentist may suggest occlusal adjustment, which is a treatment that reshapes some of your back teeth.
Generally, our dentists will suggest non-surgical treatments and lifestyle changes first, as well as monitor and review the wear of your teeth. We have an exceptionally experienced team that will be able to restore any tooth wear and damage.
Most cases of bruxism improve and do not get any worse. Most individual won’t need surgery and symptoms will improve using the treatments mentioned. Many children who have bruxism grow out of it over without treatment. There are self-care ways to treat or prevent teeth grinding, such as reducing stress and getting more sleep. But, dental examinations are the best way to identify bruxism.
