Why your teeth are more important during Covid

It’s pretty obvious to everyone that it’s been a rough year. With all the focus on the devastating effects of Covid-19, it’s never been more important to pay attention to other parts of your health. That includes your teeth - staying in contact with your dentist, keeping up a consistent dental routine and maintaining a healthy diet are all crucial for the health of your teeth.

Stay in contact

While the pandemic has filled up the time of healthcare workers across the country, it’s still really important to keep up a strong relationship with your dentist. Regular checkups can help dentists spot issues popping up, while giving you a reassuring peace of mind. Here at Pure Smiles, all of our staff, equipment and surgeries are set up to protect you from the virus - so you won’t have to worry about causing harm to yourself or others. If you’re worried about any of your teeth, always make sure you make an appointment. Those self-isolating should still contact their dentist, whether that be through the internet or phone, to organise appointments and get suggestions. Putting off any problems with your teeth will only lead to more serious issues further down the road.

Routine

When we’re all stuck working at home, falling out of routines can be easier than ever. That’s why it’s never been more important to be conscious of your dental habits and stop them from slipping. In fact, why not add to your routine? If you’ve not started flossing, you should make it part of your morning and night dental schedule to get your teeth sparkling.

Old habits

As well as falling out of a dental routine, giving in to old habits can be a tempting way to suppress stress. Whether that’s diet, a lack of exercise or smoking, many people struggle to avoid their previous methods of dealing with stress. Not only are all these things detrimental for maintaining good dental health, but they’ll also have a negative role to play in your mental health.

Mental Health

Mental health is becoming more and more prevalent in the national discussion about health - and for good reason. Physical problems with your teeth can have terrible implications for your mental balance, especially during a crisis. Bad mental health can convince you to ditch regular dental routines - so make sure you’re keeping an eye on all aspects of your health. If you’re having trouble, we’d recommend trying meditation and breathwork for some help with mindfulness.

Staying aware of other aspects of our health has been crucial this past year and will continue to be so for the foreseeable future. Never be put off coming to see us and make sure you book an appointment if you’ve noticed something unusual about your teeth. Remember - keep up your routines and maintain your stress levels to ensure you’re as healthy as can be during the pandemic. Your teeth have never been more important.
